Former postal worker sentenced for delaying and stealing U.S. mail

Randy Brown Jr., a former postal employee from Gretna, Louisiana, has been sentenced to 21 months in prison. United States District Judge Sarah S. Vance handed down the sentence after Brown pleaded guilty to charges of unlawfully delaying and stealing U.S. mail.

The charges stemmed from incidents occurring between July 2022 and October 4, 2022. During this period, Brown was found to have unlawfully delayed mail entrusted to him as part of his duties. Additionally, on three specific dates—September 26, September 27, and October 3 of that year—Brown embezzled checks from the mail.

Beyond the prison term, Judge Vance also imposed a three-year supervised release on Brown. He is required to pay a $100 mandatory special assessment fee.

Acting U.S. Attorney Simpson commended the efforts of the United States Postal Service's Office of the Inspector General and the Gretna Police Department in investigating the case. The prosecution was led by Assistant United States Attorney Troy L. Bell from the Violent Crimes Unit.
