Robert Sloan, a 48-year-old resident of Roswell, Georgia, has entered a guilty plea for charges related to transportation for the purposes of prostitution. The plea was accepted by Judge Richard G. Andrews, as announced by Shannon T. Hanson, Acting U.S. Attorney for the District of Delaware.

The investigation into Sloan commenced in July 2023 following a 911 call from an individual who had received concerning text messages from a family member suggesting they were being trafficked at a hotel in Dover, Delaware. Law enforcement conducted a welfare check at the location and found two women inside the room with Sloan. Initially denying knowledge of anyone matching the victim's name, one woman later identified herself as the victim once separated from Sloan. Further inquiries revealed that Sloan transported her from North Carolina to Delaware and facilitated multiple instances of prostitution along their journey.

Acting U.S. Attorney Hanson remarked on the gravity of such offenses: “Sex trafficking individuals for personal financial gain is a heinous crime. My office is committed to working with our law enforcement partners to rescue victims of sex trafficking and we encourage citizens to join us in this effort by contacting law enforcement if they suspect someone is a victim of sex trafficking – if you see something, say something.”

William J. DelBagno, FBI Baltimore Special Agent in Charge, emphasized the commitment to combating these crimes: “Robert Sloan’s guilty plea is a powerful example of how our Delaware Violent Crime and Safe Streets Task Force continually works to stop sex trafficking. Anyone who profits from sexually exploiting others will be brought to justice for their heinous crimes,” he said.

The case was investigated by the FBI with support from Delaware State Police and prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorneys Claudia L. Pare and Briana Knox.

Sloan could face up to ten years in prison pending sentencing considerations based on U.S. Sentencing Guidelines and other legal factors determined by Judge Andrews.
