A Dominican national, Yonelin Manuel Baez Soto, has admitted guilt in a Boston federal court for unlawfully reentering the United States after deportation. The plea was made to one count of unlawful reentry of a deported alien. U.S. District Court Judge Denise J. Casper has set the sentencing date for August 6, 2025. Baez Soto faced indictment by a federal Grand Jury in March 2025.
Baez Soto's prior removal from the United States occurred in November 2020 following convictions for a felony narcotics offense in Essex Superior Court and multiple charges of Social Security number misuse and aggravated identity theft in U.S. District Court for the District of Massachusetts. Despite his removal, Baez Soto reentered the country without authorization.
The charge he faces carries potential penalties including up to 20 years imprisonment, three years supervised release, and fines reaching $250,000. Upon completion of any sentence imposed, Baez Soto will be subject to deportation once more. Sentencing decisions are made by a federal district court judge based on U.S. Sentencing Guidelines and relevant statutes.
The announcement was made by United States Attorney Leah B. Foley alongside Patricia H. Hyde, Field Office Director of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s Enforcement and Removal Operations in Boston. Assistant U.S. Attorney David Cutshall is leading the prosecution.
