U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), in collaboration with the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF), have apprehended a Dominican national charged with armed robbery in Massachusetts. Emerson Esteban Arias-Polanco, 27, was arrested in Boston on March 20.
Patricia H. Hyde, acting Field Office Director for ICE Enforcement and Removal Operations in Boston, stated: “Emerson Esteban Arias-Polanco illegally entered the United States and apparently decided to commit an armed robbery while wearing a mask.” She emphasized that he poses a threat to Massachusetts residents and expressed regret over the Norfolk County House of Corrections' decision to release him despite an immigration detainer. Hyde added that ICE Boston remains committed to public safety by targeting alien offenders.
Arias-Polanco's entry into the United States occurred without inspection or authorization at an unspecified time and location. He was initially arrested by Dedham Police Department on November 30, 2023, for armed robbery while masked. His case advanced to Norfolk County Superior Court on May 3, 2024, where he was indicted.
On January 5, 2025, ICE Boston filed an immigration detainer against Arias-Polanco with the Norfolk County House of Corrections. However, the facility did not comply with this request and released him from custody.
Following his re-arrest by ICE Boston officers along with DEA New England and ATF Boston agents on March 20, Arias-Polanco remains detained under ICE custody.
