Acting United States Attorney Matthew R. Molsen has announced the sentencing of Jaiveer Tyee and Xanthe Tabbs, both residents of Coral Gables, Florida, for conspiracy to commit wire fraud. The sentencing took place on May 2, 2025, in federal court. Chief United States District Judge Robert F. Rossiter, Jr. sentenced Tyee to nine months in prison and Tabbs to three years of probation. Both were ordered to pay restitution amounting to $138,926.71. Following his release from prison, Tyee will serve a three-year term of supervised release.

The fraudulent activities occurred between April 25 and July 19, 2018. During this period, Tyee and Tabbs engaged in a scheme targeting a company based in the District of Nebraska that provided subscription-based services related to weather, agriculture, energy, and commodity market information.

An unknown individual used a spoofed email account to impersonate a vendor associated with the victim company. This person requested changes in payment details concerning an invoice the company was processing. The fraudulent email included wiring instructions and third-party bank account information not linked to the legitimate vendor. An employee at the victim company believed the request was genuine and executed the wire transfer.

On May 23, 2018, the victim company unwittingly transferred $280,646 from its financial institution to a third-party bank account controlled by Tyee and Tabbs. After receiving these funds, Tyee and Tabbs quickly conducted several financial transactions involving cashier's checks and further wire transfers to other accounts they managed. Despite recovering some funds after discovering the fraud, the victim company suffered a loss totaling $138,926.71.

The Federal Bureau of Investigation conducted an investigation into this case.
