A Georgia man, David Morris, has been charged with trafficking firearms and drugs into New York City. The arrest was announced by Jay Clayton, U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of New York; Bryan Miller, Special Agent in Charge of the ATF's New York Field Division; and Jessica S. Tisch, Commissioner of the NYPD.
Morris allegedly transported 47 firearms and numerous rounds of ammunition from Georgia to Lower Manhattan. He was arrested following a sale involving 17 firearms and cocaine to undercover officers. "As alleged, David Morris illegally trafficked dangerous drugs and 47 firearms from Georgia to New York City," stated U.S. Attorney Jay Clayton.
ATF Special Agent Bryan Miller emphasized the agency's commitment to targeting firearm traffickers: “Today’s arrest serves as a notice to those who think they are above the law.” NYPD Commissioner Jessica S. Tisch noted that their efforts prevented these weapons and drugs from reaching city streets.
The criminal complaint outlines multiple transactions conducted by Morris on March 28, April 18, and May 9, 2025. During these interactions with undercover officers in Lower Manhattan, Morris reportedly sold firearms and narcotics while claiming access to machine gun conversion devices.
Morris is charged with unlicensed dealing of firearms, firearms trafficking, and using a firearm in furtherance of drug trafficking. These charges carry significant penalties if he is convicted.
The case forms part of Operation Take Back America, aiming to combat illegal immigration and organized crime activities nationwide. The prosecution is led by Assistant U.S. Attorney Kathryn Wheelock from the Violent and Organized Crime Unit.
Authorities remind that all charges are accusations at this stage, with defendants presumed innocent until proven guilty in court.
