Jerry Wayne Shomo, a resident of Broken Bow, Oklahoma, has pleaded guilty to a federal firearm charge. The United States Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Oklahoma announced that Shomo, aged 47, admitted guilt to one count of being a felon in possession of a firearm. This offense carries a potential penalty of up to 15 years in prison and a $250,000 fine.
The indictment against Shomo stated that he knowingly possessed a DSP Armory Model DSP-15 multi-caliber semi-automatic rifle on December 9, 2024. This occurred after he had been previously convicted of a crime punishable by more than one year of imprisonment.
The investigation leading to this charge was conducted by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives along with the Oklahoma Highway Patrol.
U.S. Magistrate Judge Jason A. Robertson accepted Shomo's plea in the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Oklahoma. He also ordered the completion of a presentence investigation report.
A U.S. District Court Judge will later determine Shomo's sentence based on the U.S. Sentencing Guidelines and other statutory factors.
Shomo is currently held in custody by the United States Marshals Service as he awaits sentencing.
