Guatemalan national indicted for illegal re-entry after prior drug trafficking conviction

A Guatemalan national, previously deported in 2015 following a drug trafficking conviction, has been indicted by a federal grand jury in Rhode Island for illegal re-entry into the United States. Acting United States Attorney Sara Miron Bloom made the announcement.

Court records reveal that Pedro Andony Alvarado Aguilar, aged 49, was convicted in November 2014 in Connecticut on charges of conspiracy to import large quantities of cocaine and heroin. He was subsequently deported on July 1, 2015. Allegations state that Aguilar unlawfully returned to the U.S. and was found in Rhode Island.

Aguilar is set to appear for arraignment in U.S. District Court in Providence on May 12, 2025. It is important to note that an indictment is merely an accusation, and a defendant remains innocent until proven guilty.

Assistant United States Attorney Peter I. Roklan is prosecuting the case, which was investigated by Homeland Security Investigations Immigration and Customs Enforcement.

This legal action falls under Operation Take Back America, a nationwide initiative aimed at combating illegal immigration and dismantling cartels and transnational criminal organizations. The operation consolidates resources from the Department of Justice's Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Forces (OCDETFs) and Project Safe Neighborhood (PSN).
