Honduran national sentenced for illegal re-entry into the United States

A Honduran national has been sentenced in New Orleans for re-entering the United States after being deported. Acting U.S. Attorney Michael M. Simpson announced that Evin Enrique Funez-Cruz, aged 22, was sentenced on May 8, 2025, for violating Title 8 of the United States Code, Sections 1326(a) and (b)(1).

Court documents reveal that Funez-Cruz was apprehended in St. Tammany Parish around January 6, 2025. He had previously been deported to Honduras on June 21, 2024.

United States District Judge Jane Triche Milazzo sentenced Funez-Cruz to time served. Following his sentence, he will be deported back to Honduras by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).

Acting U.S. Attorney Simpson commended the efforts of the U.S. Customs and Border Protection in investigating this case. Assistant United States Attorney Spiro G. Latsis from the General Crimes Unit handled the prosecution.
