Sean P. Costello U.S. Attorney | U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of Alabama

A Guatemalan national, Nicolas Joaquin Celestino-Gonzalez, was sentenced for illegally reentering the United States after previous deportations. He was arrested by the Saraland Police Department during a traffic stop on March 23, 2025. The U.S. Border Patrol (USBP) confirmed his prior removals in 2018 and 2019.

Chief United States District Judge Jeffrey U. Beaverstock imposed a time-served sentence along with a one-year supervised release term for Celestino-Gonzalez. Having been in custody since his arrest, he will be referred to immigration officials for deportation proceedings upon release. Additionally, he was ordered to pay $100 in special assessments.

The announcement was made by U.S. Attorney Sean P. Costello of the Southern District of Alabama. The case was investigated by the U.S. Border Patrol and the Saraland Police Department, with Assistant U.S. Attorney Justin Roller prosecuting.

This sentencing is part of Operation Take Back America, an initiative by the Department of Justice aimed at combating illegal immigration and transnational criminal organizations while protecting communities from violent crime.
