Idaho man indicted for alleged assault on U.S. Park Rangers in Utah

A federal grand jury has indicted Gregory Aaron Farley, a 51-year-old man from Hazelton, Idaho, following an alleged assault on U.S. Park Rangers in Southern Utah. The incident occurred at the Glen Canyon National Recreation Area near Lake Powell.

Court documents state that on May 3, 2025, two park rangers responded to a report of an erratic driver in a white pick-up truck. The rangers stopped a vehicle matching the description on Highway 89 and identified Farley as the driver. During the stop, Farley reportedly fled at high speed, nearly hitting one ranger. The rangers pursued him until Farley allegedly turned his vehicle around and collided with their patrol car, disabling it.

After this collision, both rangers fired their weapons at Farley. Additional officers arrived on the scene, after which Farley exited his truck and received medical aid before being taken into custody.

Farley faces charges of assaulting a federal employee with a dangerous weapon. His initial court appearance is set for May 19, 2025, in St. George, Utah.

The announcement was made by Acting United States Attorney Felice John Viti for the District of Utah. The FBI Salt Lake City Field Office is conducting the investigation, while Assistant United States Attorneys Stephen P. Dent and Joseph M. Hood are prosecuting the case.

This case falls under Operation Take Back America, an initiative aimed at combating illegal immigration and transnational criminal organizations while protecting communities from violent crime.

It is important to note that an indictment is merely an allegation; all defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty in court.
