Pamela Bondi appoints Theodore S. Hertzberg as interim U.S. attorney

Attorney General Pamela Bondi has appointed Theodore S. Hertzberg as the Interim United States Attorney for the Northern District of Georgia. This appointment follows 28 U.S.C. § 546, allowing the Attorney General to appoint a U.S. Attorney in districts with a vacancy. Mr. Hertzberg's new role took effect on May 13, 2025, and his oath of office was administered by Chief U.S. District Judge Timothy C. Batten, Sr., on May 14, 2025.

Mr. Hertzberg has served as an Assistant U.S. Attorney for nearly a decade. His career with the Justice Department began at the Savannah headquarters of the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of Georgia, where he focused on prosecuting violent criminals and fraudsters while also leading the asset forfeiture section. In 2018, he moved to Atlanta to join the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Northern District of Georgia, handling cases against gang leaders and other dangerous offenders.

Before joining the Department of Justice, Mr. Hertzberg worked at Kramer Levin Naftalis & Frankel LLP in New York and clerked for Honorable Kristi K. DuBose at the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Alabama.

Hertzberg holds degrees from Amherst College and New York University School of Law.
