U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) has taken into custody Javid Ahmadi, a 27-year-old Afghani national, in Elkridge, Maryland. The arrest occurred on May 13, following Ahmadi's conviction for second-degree assault.
"The arrest of this criminal alien offender, who has been convicted of assault here in Maryland, highlights the ongoing threat posed by individuals who violate our immigration laws and engage in serious criminal activity after entering the United States illegally," stated ICE Baltimore acting Field Office Director Nikita Baker. "ICE Baltimore will continue to prioritize the arrest and removal of criminal aliens who endanger the safety and well-being of our Maryland communities."
Ahmadi was initially apprehended by U.S. Border Patrol near San Ysidro, California, on October 10, 2023. He was served with a notice to appear and released on an order of recognizance that same day.
Subsequently, on June 19, 2024, Ahmadi was arrested by the Anne Arundel County Police Department and charged with second-degree assault, a fourth-degree sex offense, and indecent exposure. The Circuit Court for Anne Arundel County in Annapolis convicted him of second-degree assault on April 9 and sentenced him to nearly one year of confinement; however, his sentence was suspended entirely.
Ahmadi remains in ICE custody as authorities proceed with further actions.
