U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) has arrested four individuals convicted of child sex crimes across various states, including Massachusetts, California, New York, and Texas. These arrests took place on May 12.
“ICE has a long history of protecting children and other vulnerable members of our society,” stated ICE acting Director Todd M. Lyons. “These sexual predators have no place in our communities — and our officers and agents will continue to take them off the streets so they can’t hurt people who can’t protect themselves.”
The individuals apprehended include Carlos Araujo from Leominster, Massachusetts. Araujo, a Uruguayan national and registered sex offender, was previously convicted for indecent assault and battery on a 7-year-old. He entered the U.S. as a lawful permanent resident in 1997 through Boston.
In California, Carlos Ubence Cortez-Lopez, a Guatemalan national, was arrested at the California Rehabilitation Center in Norco. Cortez had been sentenced to prison for unlawful sexual intercourse with a minor and possession of child pornography.
Dublas Perez Salazar was detained in Airmont, New York. Perez is also a Guatemalan national charged with child rape by the Ramapo Police Department in Suffern.
Lastly, Filemon Martinez-Medina was taken into custody at the Texas State Prison in Huntsville. Martinez is a Mexican citizen who was sentenced to 14 years for aggravated sexual assault of a minor.
All four individuals remain in ICE custody pending removal proceedings.
“Through extensive collaboration between federal, state, and local agencies, ICE and the Department of Homeland Security have arrested a record number of illegal aliens since January 20, and we’re not finished yet,” added Lyons.
For reporting crime or suspicious activity related to immigration violations, ICE encourages contacting them via phone or their online tip form.
