A Mexican national has been sentenced to 70 months in federal prison for possession of child sexual abuse material (CSAM), as announced by U.S. Attorney Nicholas J. Ganjei. Felix Raymundo Mora-Gonzalez, aged 47, pleaded guilty on February 20 and was sentenced by U.S. District Judge Rolando Olvera.

In addition to his prison term, Mora-Gonzalez is required to pay $13,000 in restitution to the known victims and will be under supervised release for 25 years after serving his sentence. During this period, he must adhere to various restrictions concerning children and internet access and register as a sex offender.

Mora-Gonzalez's arrest on February 21, 2023, was initially linked to an alien smuggling investigation where he was found harboring illegal aliens. The investigation led authorities to discover a cell phone at a stash house belonging to him. A forensic examination revealed that Mora-Gonzalez possessed 29 videos and nine images of CSAM.

Previously, Mora-Gonzalez had also pleaded guilty to alien smuggling charges and received a sentence of 15 months.

He remains in custody awaiting transfer to a Federal Bureau of Prisons facility.

The investigation was conducted by Immigration and Customs Enforcement - Homeland Security Investigations and Border Patrol. Assistant U.S. Attorneys Ana C. Cano, Israel Cano, and Joe Esquivel prosecuted the case under Project Safe Childhood (PSC). This nationwide initiative launched by the Department of Justice in May 2006 aims to combat child sexual exploitation and abuse by coordinating federal, state, and local resources.
