The United States has imposed sanctions on a network of senior Hizballah officials and financial facilitators. These individuals, based in Lebanon and Iran, work closely with Hizballah leadership to manage significant financial transfers from international donors, which are essential to the group's budget.
This measure aligns with President Trump's comprehensive policy of maximum pressure against Iran and its terrorist proxies, including Hizballah. This approach is outlined in National Security Presidential Memorandum 2 issued on February 4.
The United States aims to support Lebanon by exposing and disrupting funding schemes for Hizballah’s terrorist activities and Iran’s destabilizing influence in the region. The U.S. government asserts that "Iran and Hizballah cannot be allowed to keep Lebanon captive." It further states that it will continue using available tools until "this terrorist group no longer threatens the Lebanese people and the whole region."
Today's action is executed under counterterrorism authority Executive Order (E.O.) 13224, as amended. The Department of State has previously designated Hizballah as a Specially Designated Global Terrorist under E.O. 13224, targeting terrorist groups and their supporters, as well as labeling it a Foreign Terrorist Organization. Further details about today's designation can be found in the document titled "Treasury Disrupts Financial Facilitation Network Supporting Hizballah Terrorists."
