Minnesota State Trooper Jeremy Francis Plonski has been indicted on charges of producing and distributing child pornography, according to an announcement by Acting U.S. Attorney Lisa D. Kirkpatrick. The indictment was issued in the U.S. District Court.
Previously charged via federal complaint with one count of producing child pornography, Plonski remains detained pending trial. If convicted, he faces a mandatory minimum sentence of fifteen years and could receive up to life in prison.
Acting U.S. Attorney Lisa D. Kirkpatrick stated, “The U.S. Attorney’s Office has zero tolerance for public officials who violate federal laws—particularly those laws that protect vulnerable children from sexual abuse.” She emphasized the gravity of the situation by saying, “Plonski took an oath to protect and serve our community. While donning his uniform, Plonski committed one of the most vile and predatory offenses imaginable.”
Special Agent in Charge Alvin M. Winston Sr. of FBI Minneapolis commented on the case, describing it as “horrifying and a gross betrayal of public trust.” He added that such crimes shake community trust when committed by someone in authority.
Drew Evans, Superintendent of the Bureau of Criminal Apprehension (BCA), affirmed their commitment to working with various partners to hold accountable those who sexually abuse children: “We will pursue anyone who wishes to harm children in our communities.”
The investigation involved collaboration between several agencies including the FBI, Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension, Shakopee Police Department, and Minnesota State Patrol.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Daniel W. Bobier is leading the prosecution.
It is important to note that an indictment is merely an allegation; Plonski is presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in court.
