Anthony Wright, executive director of Families USA, has expressed concerns regarding President Trump's recent executive order on prescription drug prices. The order aims to align Medicare payments for medications administered in doctors' offices with the lowest prices paid by other countries.
Wright commented, "While consumer advocates have long advocated to lower prescription drug prices, the problem that Americans often pay more for medications than anyone else in the world can’t be solved with executive orders and vague promises." He emphasized that any proposal would be more effective if processed through Congress. This statement comes on the same day Republicans proposed significant cuts to Medicaid, potentially affecting coverage for nearly 14 million people and impacting the Medicare Drug Price Negotiation Program by limiting eligible drugs.
"If the White House is serious about lowering drug costs," Wright continued, "it would oppose the Energy and Commerce reconciliation proposals and instead encourage Congress to negotiate more drugs, not fewer – an approach supported by the vast majority of Americans from all political stripes."
