Te’Vaughn Brown, a 20-year-old resident of the District, has been indicted by a grand jury in the Superior Court on charges of felony assault with significant bodily injury against a senior citizen. The incident occurred last summer at Navy Yard Metro Station and was announced by U.S. Attorney Jeanine Ferris Pirro and Chief Pamela Smith of the Metropolitan Police Department.
The case is set for a jury trial beginning July 14, 2025. Brown also faces misdemeanor charges for simple assault and theft in a separate pending trial in Superior Court.
Government evidence indicates that on August 9, around 3:30 p.m., the victim exited a train at Navy Yard Metro Station and encountered Brown sitting on stairs leading to the mezzanine level. As the victim attempted to pass, Brown allegedly grabbed his leg and began punching him in the head and face before fleeing. The victim was hospitalized with multiple injuries including a fractured nasal bone, broken tooth, scalp contusion, and mouth laceration requiring twenty stitches.
Brown will be arraigned on this felony charge before Judge Jennifer Di Toro. If convicted, he could face an enhanced penalty due to the age of the victim, who was over 65 at the time of the offense. This enhancement could lead to increased fines or imprisonment terms beyond standard penalties.
The Metropolitan Police Department is investigating this case while Assistant U.S. Attorney Ariel Lieberman is prosecuting it for the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Columbia.
It should be noted that an indictment is merely an allegation; all defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond reasonable doubt in court.
