A federal jury in Boise has convicted William Walls, 52, of Nampa, on three counts of attempted sexual exploitation of a child. The verdict came after a three-day trial presided over by Senior U.S. District Judge B. Lynn Winmill, concluding with guilty verdicts on May 14.
During the trial, evidence showed that Walls used his cellphone to secretly record three female children in the bathroom of his apartment while babysitting them. The footage included one child showering and two others changing clothes.
The conviction for attempted sexual exploitation of a child carries severe penalties: a minimum sentence of fifteen years up to life in federal prison, fines up to $250,000, and at least five years up to lifetime supervised release. Additionally, Walls will have to register as a sex offender.
Sentencing is scheduled for July 31, 2025, before Judge Winmill at the federal courthouse in Boise.
Acting U.S. Attorney Justin Whatcott praised the Nampa Police Department for their investigation leading to the charges against Walls. The case was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorneys Kassandra McGrady and Erin Blackadar.
This prosecution is part of Project Safe Childhood, an initiative launched by the Department of Justice in May 2006 aimed at combating child sexual exploitation and abuse nationwide. This project involves collaboration between the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Idaho and the Idaho Attorney General’s Office to locate and prosecute individuals exploiting children online while rescuing victims.
