Brockton man sentenced for leading South Shore drug trafficking ring

A Brockton man, Giovanni Pina, 27, has been sentenced to over 11 years in prison for his role in a large-scale drug trafficking operation in Massachusetts. U.S. Senior District Court Judge William G. Young sentenced Pina to 138 months in prison, five years of supervised release, and a $250,000 fine. Pina had pleaded guilty to several charges, including possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine and conspiracy to distribute fentanyl and cocaine.

Pina was identified as a leader in the drug trafficking network that operated from January 2021 through November 2021 across the South Shore area, including Brockton, Quincy, and Weymouth. A significant part of the operation involved a "stash house" in Weymouth where law enforcement found over 10 kilograms of drugs and various paraphernalia during a search.

In early 2023, Pina was involved in recorded drug deals with a cooperating witness. These transactions included exchanges of methamphetamine pills for cash and took place both at a residence in Brockton and inside a vehicle in Taunton.

The announcement of Pina's sentencing was made by United States Attorney Leah B. Foley; Kimberly Milka, Acting Special Agent in Charge of the FBI Boston Division; and Quincy Police Chief Mark Kennedy. The investigation received support from multiple law enforcement agencies across Massachusetts.

This case is part of an Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Forces (OCDETF) operation aimed at dismantling high-level criminal organizations threatening the United States.
