Two brothers from Lynn, Massachusetts, were arrested on May 15, 2025, as part of an investigation into drug conspiracy and firearm offenses. Meliek Bennett, aged 29, and Maurice Bennett, aged 38, face charges related to the distribution of controlled substances. Additionally, Meliek is charged with possession of controlled substances with intent to distribute and possession of a firearm in furtherance of a drug trafficking crime.
According to charging documents, Maurice Bennett is identified as an alleged member of the Bloods street gang in Lynn with previous convictions for carrying firearms and violent crimes. The investigation revealed intercepted text messages between the brothers allegedly coordinating the distribution of drugs such as cocaine, prescription medication, counterfeit pills, and marijuana. They are accused of discussing sharing drug customers and supplies and planning a trip to New Hampshire for selling controlled substances.
In September 2024, authorities recorded a conversation where Meliek allegedly mentioned using a silenced pistol against a drug supplier he owed money to after being assaulted by the supplier. A subsequent search at Meliek's residence uncovered fentanyl tablets, oxycodone, gabapentin, marijuana, a .22 caliber pistol with a threaded barrel, and ammunition.
The charges for conspiracy to distribute controlled substances and possession with intent to distribute carry potential sentences of up to 20 years in prison along with supervised release and fines. The firearm charge could result in at least five additional years in prison.
The announcement was made by United States Attorney Leah B. Foley alongside Kimberly Milka from the FBI's Boston office. The Lynn Police Department and Massachusetts Department of Corrections assisted in the investigation. Assistant U.S. Attorneys Philip A. Mallard and David Cutshall are prosecuting the case.
All details from charging documents remain allegations until proven otherwise in court.
