Mongecka Eastman, also known as "Monga," has been sentenced for crimes committed on the Santee Sioux Nation Indian Reservation. United States Attorney Lesley A. Woods announced that Eastman, 24, originally from South Dakota, received his sentence on May 15, 2025, in federal court in Omaha, Nebraska. He was charged with assault resulting in serious bodily injury and sexual abuse without consent.
United States District Court Judge Brian C. Buescher sentenced Eastman to 120 months’ imprisonment for the assault case. This will run concurrently with a similar 120-month sentence for the sexual abuse charge. There is no parole in the federal system. Following his release from prison, Eastman will serve a three-year term of supervised release for the assault case and a concurrent ten-year term for the sexual abuse case.
In February 2021, Eastman assaulted a minor female in Santee, Nebraska. He entered her bedroom while she was changing clothes and forced himself on her by twisting her arm painfully and pinning her to a bed before committing sexual assault. The victim later informed a trusted adult about the incident, leading to law enforcement involvement.
In September 2023, Eastman attacked an adult male at various rural locations on the Santee Sioux Nation Indian Reservation with assistance from a minor. The victim suffered serious injuries requiring emergency medical care and hospitalization after being hit and kicked by Eastman and slammed onto a vehicle hood multiple times.
The cases were prosecuted federally due to their felony status occurring on tribal land within Nebraska's jurisdiction.
The Federal Bureau of Investigation conducted this investigation.
