A Mexican national, Felix Raymundo Mora-Gonzalez, has been sentenced to 70 months in federal prison for possession of child sexual abuse material. The sentencing follows an investigation by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) with support from the U.S. Border Patrol.
U.S. District Judge Rolando Olvera also ordered Mora-Gonzalez to pay $13,000 in restitution to the victims and imposed a 25-year supervised release after his prison term. During this period, he must adhere to conditions limiting his access to children and the internet and register as a sex offender. Mora-Gonzalez had pleaded guilty on February 20.
“Crimes against children are among the most disturbing we investigate,” stated ICE Homeland Security Investigations Rio Grande Valley Deputy Special Agent in Charge Mark Lippa. “This sentencing sends a clear message that those who exploit the most vulnerable will face serious consequences."
Court documents revealed that Mora-Gonzalez was arrested on February 21, 2023, during an alien smuggling investigation where he was initially charged with harboring illegal aliens. A search uncovered a cell phone at a stash house linked to him containing explicit videos and images of minors. He also admitted guilt in alien smuggling charges, receiving a prior sentence of 15 months.
Mora-Gonzalez is currently held pending transfer to a Federal Bureau of Prisons facility.
The case was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorneys Ana C. Cano, Israel Cano, and Joe Esquivel from the Southern District of Texas.
