Wyatt Swan, a 48-year-old resident of Washington, D.C., has been sentenced to 24 years in prison for the murder of his wife, Teresa Francisco. The sentencing was announced by U.S. Attorney Jeanine Ferris Pirro and Chief Pamela Smith of the Metropolitan Police Department.

Swan had pleaded guilty on January 24, 2025, to second-degree murder while armed. Judge Jason Park of the D.C. Superior Court also ordered Swan to serve five years of supervised release following his prison term.

The incident occurred on October 1, 2024. According to government evidence, Swan shot his wife at their apartment complex located in the 900 block of Eastern Avenue, Northeast Washington. After initially shooting her with a pistol inside their shared apartment, Francisco attempted to escape and hid in a nearby work van. Swan pursued her and fired multiple shots into the van, resulting in her death before fleeing the scene.

Swan was apprehended on October 2, 2024, with assistance from the Prince George's County Police Department.

U.S. Attorney Jeanine Ferris Pirro and Chief Smith praised those involved in investigating the case from both the Metropolitan Police Department and the U.S. Attorney’s Office. They also acknowledged support from the Prince George’s County Police Department and commended Assistant U.S. Attorney Gregory Evans for prosecuting the case.
