Brazilian man pleads guilty to illegal reentry into US

A Brazilian national, Americo Lopes-Da Silva, has entered a guilty plea in U.S. District Court in Bangor for reentering the United States after deportation. The case emerged when Lopes-Da Silva was found as a passenger in a van stopped by the U.S. Border Patrol near Rangeley, Maine.

Court documents reveal that during an immigration inspection, Lopes-Da Silva admitted to being from Brazil and lacking legal status to remain in the country. Further processing at the Rangeley Border Patrol Station uncovered his previous removal from the United States in 2021 following an illegal entry through Texas.

Lopes-Da Silva could face up to two years of imprisonment and a fine reaching $250,000. Sentencing will occur post-completion of a presentence investigative report by the U.S. Probation Office. A federal district court judge will determine the sentence based on U.S. Sentencing Guidelines and other statutory factors.
