Healthcare business owner sentenced for tax evasion totaling over $500k

Acting United States Attorney April M. Leon has announced that Leslie Henry Wilson, a 53-year-old resident of Baton Rouge, Louisiana, has been sentenced to 12 months in federal prison. The sentence was delivered by U.S. District Judge Brian A. Jackson following Wilson's conviction for failing to pay federal taxes.

Wilson will also serve three years of supervised release after her imprisonment and is required to pay $598,774.51 in restitution.

Between January 1, 2019, and December 31, 2023, Wilson was the sole owner of two businesses: Personal Touch Healthcare Services, LLC and Personal Touch Respite Center, LLC. These companies operated in the Baton Rouge metropolitan area providing outpatient assisted living services and temporary housing for homeless individuals with special needs respectively.

During this period, Wilson failed to remit over $598,774.51 in taxes to the IRS on behalf of her businesses and employees. It was revealed that she withheld substantial amounts in payroll (FICA) taxes from her employees but did not forward these funds to the IRS. Additionally, she neglected to pay the employer portion of FICA taxes for her employees.

The case was investigated by the Internal Revenue Service-Criminal Investigation and prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Ben Wallace.
