U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers at the Laredo Port of Entry have apprehended a man wanted in Illinois on an outstanding felony warrant for alleged rape. The arrest took place on May 21 at the Juarez-Lincoln Bridge.

Port Director Albert Flores emphasized the importance of border security, stating, "Our frontline CBP officers place a priority focus on securing our borders." He added that this case highlights CBP's commitment to keeping communities safe.

The individual arrested is Elio Benitez Pena, 65, a U.S. citizen. It was discovered that he was wanted by the U.S. Marshals Service based on an arrest warrant issued by the Pontoon Beach Police Department in Illinois. Benitez Pena has been transported to Webb County jail for adjudication of the warrant.

It is important to note that criminal charges are allegations, and defendants are presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
