Utah man sentenced to 22 years for leading drug trafficking operation

Llobani Federico Figueroa, also known as "Pablo," has been sentenced to 22 years in prison for operating a drug trafficking enterprise. The 33-year-old from Magna, Utah, was sentenced by U.S. District Court Judge Howard C. Nielson, Jr., after pleading guilty to continuing a criminal enterprise and possession of methamphetamine with intent to distribute.

Figueroa's sentence includes 10 years of supervised release and the forfeiture of over $300,961 in U.S. currency, three firearms, firearm accessories and ammunition, and two vehicles. According to court documents, Figueroa had been involved in drug trafficking since he was 18 years old. Between December 2022 and August 2023, he acted as a primary conduit between suppliers in California and Mexico and distributors in Utah.

The operation involved more than five people, including co-defendants who helped maintain locations for storing and selling drugs like methamphetamine, heroin, and cocaine. Figueroa admitted to managing the organization by recruiting participants and organizing couriers.

In addition to his federal conviction, Figueroa faces three pending criminal cases in Utah state courts for charges including possession with intent to distribute a controlled substance, distribution of methamphetamine, and manslaughter.

Acting U.S. Attorney Felice John Viti stated that Figueroa's sentence serves as a reminder that those who violate federal law for financial gain will face justice. Special Agent Mehtab Syed of the Salt Lake City FBI highlighted the impact of drug trafficking on families affected by substance abuse.

West Valley City Police Chief Colleen Jacobs praised her department's street crimes unit for their role in dismantling Figueroa's operation. The case was investigated by the FBI Safe Streets Violent Task Force and West Valley City Police Department and prosecuted by the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Utah.
