Spectrum Brands Pet LLC has announced a voluntary recall of a specific lot of Tetra ReptoMin 3-In-1 SELECT-A-FOOD reptile food, intended for aquatic turtles, due to potential Salmonella contamination. The affected product is sold in a 1.56oz plastic container with a green label and bears the UPC Bar Code #: 0 46798 78626 9. Only products with the lot code 951790 are included in this recall, which can be identified on the bottom of the container.
The recall arises from concerns that Salmonella could affect animals consuming the product and pose health risks to humans handling it. Humans infected with Salmonella may experience symptoms such as nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal cramps, and fever. In severe cases, it can lead to more serious conditions like arterial infections or arthritis. Consumers showing symptoms after contact with the product should seek medical advice.
While aquatic turtles typically do not suffer from Salmonella infections, they can become carriers if infected and potentially spread the bacteria to other animals or humans. It is advised that pet food bowls and storage containers exposed to the recalled product be thoroughly cleaned and sanitized.
The recalled lot was distributed nationwide between May 6 and May 16, 2025, through retailers including Petco, Walmart, Chewy, Amazon, and Meijer. Spectrum Brands Pet LLC has not received any reports of illness related to this recall but is proceeding in cooperation with the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.
SPG's testing did not detect Salmonella in the final product; however, a component may contain traces of the bacteria. An investigation with suppliers is ongoing.
