For 101 years, the United States Border Patrol (USBP) has served as a crucial component in maintaining national security. President Donald J. Trump marked this anniversary by acknowledging the dedication of Border Patrol agents who risk their lives daily to protect the nation from various threats.
In his proclamation, President Trump highlighted the challenges faced by the USBP in recent years. He criticized the previous administration for allegedly allowing unvetted illegal aliens, including criminals and terrorists, into the country. According to him, this led to increased illegal immigration and strained resources for Border Patrol agents.
President Trump stated that upon taking office on January 20, 2025, he declared a National Emergency at the southern border. This action aimed to enhance federal response capabilities and involved designating certain transnational organizations as foreign terrorist entities. Additionally, he resumed border wall construction and reinstated policies such as Remain in Mexico while ending practices like catch-and-release.
The President reported significant reductions in border encounters and migrant crossings within his first 100 days in office. He claimed that daily border encounters dropped by 95 percent and migrant crossings declined by 99.99 percent during this period. Furthermore, there was a noted decrease in fentanyl trafficking compared to the previous year.
Trump emphasized that under his leadership, USBP agents are receiving necessary resources and respect for their service. He also acknowledged those who have died in service to the nation and pledged continued support for Border Patrol efforts.
President Trump's proclamation designated May 28, 2025, as a day of celebration for the USBP's anniversary.
