U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers at the Brownsville Port of Entry have apprehended a man wanted on an outstanding felony warrant for online solicitation of a minor in the Dallas County area.

Port Director Tater Ortiz commented on the situation, stating, "Our frontline CBP officers carry out their duties with vigilance, and their efforts helped uncover an outstanding warrant for online solicitation of a minor out of Dallas County." He emphasized that this apprehension demonstrates CBP's commitment to its border security mission and community safety.

The incident occurred on Monday, May 26, when CBP officers at the Gateway International Bridge referred Gerardo Zubiri Perez, a 71-year-old Mexican citizen, for secondary inspection. During this examination, officers used biometric verification and federal law enforcement databases to confirm his identity. They discovered that he was subject to an outstanding felony arrest warrant issued by the Dallas County Sheriff's Office for solicitation of a minor. Zubiri Perez is currently held in custody in Cameron County awaiting final adjudication of the warrant.

The National Crime Information Center (NCIC) plays a crucial role in sharing information among law enforcement agencies regarding outstanding warrants for various offenses. According to NCIC data, CBP officers have previously arrested individuals wanted for crimes such as homicide, escape, money laundering, robbery, narcotics distribution, sexual child abuse, fraud, larceny, and military desertion. It is important to note that criminal charges are merely allegations and defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty in court.
