Under the leadership of U.S. Secretary of Agriculture Brooke L. Rollins, American dairy producers have gained increased market access in Costa Rica. The country has approved the first U.S. dairy facility to be registered under a new streamlined approval process. This development is part of ongoing efforts by the Trump Administration to dismantle non-tariff barriers.
"Under President Trump’s leadership, USDA is putting Farmers First," stated Secretary Rollins. "Securing greater market access for American dairy farmers is a much-needed win for the U.S. dairy industry and will give our producers better increased access to a $130 million market in Costa Rica. I look forward to continuing to Make Agriculture Great Again by breaking down trade barriers and opening new markets for our farmers and ranchers around the globe."
On May 22, Costa Rica's National Animal Health Service (SENASA) officially approved an American dairy cooperative for export, marking it as the first U.S. facility registered under this new process that facilitates market entry for U.S. dairy products. This registration sets a precedent for future exports to Costa Rica, which was valued at $60 million in 2024.
