Guatemalan national sentenced for illegal reentry into the United States

Sean P. Costello U.S. Attorney | U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of Alabama

A Guatemalan national, Maynor Tecum-Tecum, was sentenced on May 23, 2025, for illegally reentering the United States after being deported. Court documents reveal that Tecum-Tecum, aged 42, was stopped by Mobile County Sheriff's Office deputies for a traffic violation. Suspecting his immigration status, deputies contacted the United States Border Patrol (USBP), which confirmed his previous removal from the U.S. in 2010 following a conviction for illegal entry.

Judge Dubose sentenced Tecum-Tecum to time served and imposed a one-year term of supervised release upon his future release. He had been in custody since February 18, 2025. Following his prison release, he will be referred to immigration officials for deportation proceedings and must pay $100 in special assessments.

The announcement came from U.S. Attorney Sean P. Costello of the Southern District of Alabama. The case was investigated by the United States Border Patrol and Mobile County Sheriff’s Office and prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Jimmy L. Thomas.

This case is part of Operation Take Back America, an initiative by the Department of Justice aimed at addressing illegal immigration and combating cartels and transnational criminal organizations to protect communities from violent crime.
