A Mexican national appeared in court in Las Vegas to face charges of illegal reentry into the United States. Jesus Carreno-Serrano, 40, has been charged with one count of deported alien found in the United States. A preliminary hearing is set for June 10, 2025, before U.S. Magistrate Judge Maximiliano D. Couvillier III.

The criminal complaint and court statements allege that Carreno-Serrano, a citizen of Mexico, was previously deported on July 23, 2018, and May 21, 2020. He allegedly reentered the country illegally.

On May 11, 2025, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) discovered Carreno-Serrano's arrest by Las Vegas Metropolitan Police for Driving Under the Influence. He was subsequently transferred to ICE custody from Clark County Detention Center due to an immigration detainer. Carreno-Serrano has three prior felony convictions: Aggravated Driving Under the Influence, Drug Paraphernalia Possession/Use, and Illegal Reentry After Deportation.

If convicted of the current charge, Carreno-Serrano faces up to 10 years in prison, a one-year supervised release term, a $250,000 fine, and a $100 special assessment.

The announcement was made by U.S. Attorney Sigal Chattah for the District of Nevada and Salt Lake City Field Office Director Michael Bernacke.

The case is being investigated by ICE Salt Lake City’s Las Vegas Sub-Office and prosecuted by the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Nevada.
