Cruise line worker sentenced for child exploitation material possession

Acting U.S. Attorney Michael M. Simpson has announced the sentencing of Abdul Rouvoof Shaik, a 30-year-old national from the Republic of India, for possession of materials involving the sexual exploitation of minors. The sentencing took place on May 21, 2025, in New Orleans.

Shaik, a former employee of Carnival Cruise Lines, was arrested in July 2024 after special agents with the U.S. Department of Homeland Security - Homeland Security Investigations discovered him in possession of child pornography at the Erato Street Cruise Terminal in New Orleans.

United States District Judge Ivan L.R. Lemelle sentenced Shaik to 12 months and one day imprisonment, followed by five years of probation. Additionally, Shaik is required to pay a $100 mandatory special assessment fee.

This case falls under Project Safe Childhood, an initiative launched by the Department of Justice in May 2006 aimed at combating child sexual exploitation and abuse. The program coordinates federal, state, and local resources to prosecute offenders and rescue victims effectively.

The U.S. Attorney’s Office extended its gratitude to the U.S. Department of Homeland Security - Homeland Security Investigations and U.S. Customs and Border Protection for their assistance in this case. Assistant U.S. Attorney Brian M. Klebba, Chief of the Financial Crimes Unit, is handling the prosecution.
