Selma man receives prison sentence for possessing illegal machine gun devices

Sean P. Costello U.S. Attorney | U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of Alabama

A Selma resident, Mark Anthony Wallace, 26, has been sentenced to 18 months in prison for the unlawful possession of machine gun conversion devices, known as "Glock-switches." This sentence follows his conviction for possessing two such devices.

Court documents reveal that on February 2, 2024, Wallace was stopped by Dallas County Sheriff Deputies for a traffic violation. During this stop, deputies observed a firearm equipped with a machinegun conversion device and a high-capacity magazine. The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) was informed and subsequently continued the investigation that led to Wallace's federal indictment.

On October 13, 2024, Wallace was again pulled over for speeding. A background check revealed an outstanding arrest warrant from the Southern District of Alabama. Upon his arrest, he was found in possession of another firearm with a machinegun conversion device and high-capacity magazine.

This case is part of Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), an initiative aimed at reducing violent crime and gun violence through collaboration between law enforcement agencies and communities. The program emphasizes fostering trust within communities, supporting organizations that prevent violence, setting strategic enforcement priorities, and evaluating outcomes.

U.S. Attorney Sean P. Costello of the Southern District of Alabama announced the sentencing. The Dallas County Sheriff's Department and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives conducted the investigation. Assistant U.S. Attorney Andrew D. Arrington prosecuted the case on behalf of the United States.
