Jasmine Rae Valdez, a 26-year-old resident of Ada, Oklahoma, has been sentenced to 33 months in prison for two charges related to assault in Indian Country. These include "Assault with a Dangerous Weapon with Intent to do Bodily Harm" and "Assault Resulting in Serious Bodily Injury." The sentences will run concurrently.
Valdez's co-defendant, Brendan Kaleb Rains, also 26 and from Ada, was previously sentenced on April 10, 2025. He received a 60-month concurrent sentence for similar charges. Rains had pleaded guilty on June 11, 2024.
The incident occurred on August 29, 2023, when Valdez and Rains forced entry into a residence in Stonewall, Oklahoma. During the altercation that followed, Valdez assisted Rains in attacking the occupants and acted to prevent help from reaching the victims. The crimes took place within Pontotoc County on the Chickasaw Nation Reservation.
The case was investigated by the Chickasaw Nation Lighthorse Police and the Bureau of Indian Affairs. The sentencing hearing was presided over by Chief U.S. District Judge Eric F. Melgren of Kansas. Valdez will remain in custody pending her transfer to a federal prison facility.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Kevin Gross represented the prosecution.
