NAM supports executive orders on nuclear energy expansion

The National Association of Manufacturers (NAM) has expressed approval for President Trump's recent executive orders aimed at expanding nuclear energy development, streamlining federal permitting, and bolstering domestic fuel production. NAM President and CEO Jay Timmons said, "These actions mark an important and timely step toward unleashing American energy dominance safely and responsibly."

The executive orders are designed to accelerate the licensing of next-generation nuclear reactors, open federal lands for energy infrastructure, and increase domestic uranium production. Timmons emphasized that these measures address critical supply chain challenges and energy demands, especially as the AI-driven economy continues to grow.

Timmons highlighted the importance of rebalancing regulations and expediting permitting reform as key components of a comprehensive manufacturing strategy. He noted that Congress must act on these pillars to enable manufacturers to grow, hire, and compete. "The NAM looks forward to working closely with the National Energy Dominance Council," he added.

Recent data from Gallup indicates that support for nuclear energy in the U.S. has risen to 61%, nearing its all-time high in 2010. The NAM has long advocated for policies promoting investment in advanced nuclear power to meet increasing U.S. energy demand driven by electrification, advanced manufacturing, and AI advancements.

These policies include reforming the permitting process for reactor projects on underused or abandoned sites, provisions for early licensing work at national security infrastructure sites, and awards encouraging companies to develop advanced-reactor technology.
