Lawrence County man sentenced for extensive child exploitation crimes

A Lawrence County man has received a 300-year prison sentence for multiple child sexual exploitation offenses, as announced by U.S. Attorney Prim F. Escalona.

U.S. District Court Judge Liles C. Burke sentenced David Edward Collier, II, aged 47 from Moulton, Alabama, to 3,600 months in prison. Collier pleaded guilty in January to 13 charges related to crimes against children. These charges include four counts of sexual exploitation of children, eight counts of transportation of child pornography, and one count of possession of child pornography.

Court documents reveal that Collier engaged in producing, distributing, transporting, and possessing child pornography. He communicated online about his intentions to expose and sexually exploit children. From January 2017 to August 2022, he used unsuspecting children to create child pornography. Between October 2022 and September 2023, he distributed this material through social media platforms.

“My office and our federal, state, and local law enforcement partners are committed to protecting children from the devastating and lifelong impacts caused by defendants like David Collier,” said U.S. Attorney Escalona. “Rest assured that if you commit crimes against children in the Northern District of Alabama, we will prosecute you and send you to federal prison.”

“This tremendous sentencing demonstrates the steadfast commitment of the FBI and our partners to investigate cases involving violent crimes against children," stated David R. Fitzgibbons, Special Agent in Charge of the Birmingham Division. "Let this be a warning to sexual predators that we will stop at nothing to protect every child from horrendous perpetrators like David Collier."

The investigation was carried out by the FBI North Alabama Violent Crime Task Force and Cybercrime Squad with assistance from several local law enforcement agencies including the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Office and Moulton Police Department among others. The case was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorneys R. Leann White and John M. Hundscheid.

This case is part of Project Safe Childhood initiated by the Department of Justice in May 2006 aimed at combating child sexual exploitation and abuse nationwide.
