Nancy E. Larson named acting U.S. attorney for Northern District of Texas

Nancy E. Larson has been appointed as the Acting United States Attorney for the Northern District of Texas, following her appointment by President Donald J. Trump on May 29, 2025. In this role, Larson becomes the chief federal prosecutor for a district that covers 96,000 square miles and serves around eight million people in areas including Dallas, Fort Worth, Amarillo, Lubbock, Abilene, San Angelo, Wichita Falls, and surrounding regions.

Larson will oversee more than 80 Assistant United States Attorneys in her new position. She expressed her commitment to the role by stating: “It is the honor of a lifetime to lead the office where I have spent my career representing the United States.” She further emphasized her dedication to implementing presidential and attorney general priorities while ensuring community safety.

With over three decades of experience as an Assistant United States Attorney, Larson began her career with the Department of Justice in Washington D.C., handling cases related to homicide, narcotics, violent crime, fraud, and other offenses. In 1999, she joined the Northern District of Texas as the lead prosecutor for the Housing Fraud Initiative and later became Chief of the Appellate Division.

Throughout her tenure in Texas, Larson has appeared before the Fifth Circuit Court regularly and served as both Executive Assistant United States Attorney and Professional Responsibility Officer. Her career includes participation in over two dozen criminal trials and numerous awards recognizing her service and leadership.

A native of New York with a law degree from the University of Virginia School of Law, Larson comes from a family with deep roots in law enforcement. Her father was a Special Agent in IRS Criminal Investigations while her grandfather and great-grandfather served with NYPD. This background has contributed to her dedication to public service.
