Corey Robert Dodge, also known as Cakesbaylor, has been sentenced to 41 months in prison for crimes involving unauthorized access devices and cocaine possession. U.S. District Judge John L. Sinatra, Jr. handed down the sentence after Dodge was convicted of possessing 15 or more unauthorized access devices with intent to defraud and possession with intent to distribute cocaine. Additionally, Dodge must forfeit $27,000 obtained through his illegal activities.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Charles M. Kruly revealed that since August 2018, the FBI had been investigating Genesis Market, an illicit online marketplace selling stolen data from malware-infected computers worldwide. Purchases on this platform are made using virtual currencies like bitcoin.
Between March 26, 2020, and May 30, 2021, Dodge acquired 14 packages containing stolen account credentials from Genesis Market. These credentials included accounts for various services such as Paypal, Tracfone, eBay, Amazon, FedEx, Etsy, Walmart, Chase Bank, Venmo, and eTrade.
On April 3, 2023, a search warrant executed by the FBI at Dodge's residence uncovered quantities of fentanyl, cocaine, MDMA (ecstasy), ketamine and drug paraphernalia alongside evidence related to his use of Genesis Marketplace.
The investigation leading to this sentencing was conducted by the Federal Bureau of Investigation under Special Agent-in-Charge Matthew Miraglia's direction and the Buffalo Police Department led by Commissioner Alphonso Wright.
