LaPrince Stephens, a 46-year-old resident of the District of Columbia and previously convicted felon, has been sentenced to 27 months in federal prison for illegal possession of a firearm while under court-ordered supervision. The sentencing was delivered by U.S. District Court Judge Randolph D. Moss, who also imposed three years of supervised release following the prison term.
The announcement came from U.S. Attorney Jeanine Ferris Pirro, FBI Assistant Director in Charge Steven J. Jensen of the Washington Field Office, and Chief Pamela Smith of the Metropolitan Police Department.
Stephens was found guilty by a federal jury on January 29, 2025. The charges stemmed from an incident on January 6, 2019, when Metropolitan Police Department officers responded to reports of two men tampering with a dark BMW at an apartment complex on Savannah Terrace SE. Officers discovered one window smashed and the ignition punched. After initially releasing Stephens, they later found a loaded Glock 17 semi-automatic pistol at the scene linked to him through DNA testing.
On August 24, 2023, officers arrested Stephens outside the same apartment complex where he had previously committed offenses. They recovered a loaded Smith and Wesson SD40 VE handgun from his waistband.
Stephens has prior convictions for drug offenses, robbery, threats, assaults, and firearms violations.
The case was investigated by the Metropolitan Police Department with assistance from the FBI Washington Field Office and prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorneys Sarah Martin and Cameron Tepfer.
