Aerospace Industries Association (AIA) President and CEO Eric Fanning has voiced concerns over the proposed fiscal year 2026 budget request for NASA and NOAA. In a statement, Fanning emphasized AIA's longstanding support for these agencies, which he believes are crucial in advancing science and technology to protect national interests and boost the economy.
Fanning criticized the proposed budget, suggesting that significant cuts to essential programs could endanger U.S. leadership in space exploration. "The proposed budget falls short, making heavy-handed cuts to mission-critical programs that could jeopardize our space leadership," Fanning stated. He acknowledged the importance of a fiscally responsible federal budget but warned against measures that might hinder innovation within the American space industry.
AIA is calling on Congress and the Administration to increase funding for NASA and NOAA, advocating for a budget of no less than $25.5 billion for NASA and at least $1.7 billion for NOAA’s space-related accounts in fiscal year 2026. The association also supports stable budgets and long-term planning to maintain U.S. dominance in space activities.
