Homeland Security Investigations Special Agent Timothy Ryan Gregg has been charged with producing child pornography, as announced by Acting U.S. Attorney Joseph H. Thompson.
Court documents state that Gregg, 51, from Eagan, Minnesota, allegedly coerced a minor into participating in sexually explicit activities to create child pornography. The father of the minor discovered explicit images and videos on the child's cell phone, which included content involving an older individual identified as Timothy Gregg. Gregg serves as a Special Agent with Homeland Security Investigations and is also a Task Force Officer with the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
Acting U.S. Attorney Joseph H. Thompson commented on the situation: "The U.S. Attorney’s Office will always hold defendants in positions of public trust to account, particularly when they commit crimes against vulnerable children." He praised the FBI and Rochester Police Department for their prompt action in apprehending Gregg.
Special Agent in Charge Alvin M. Winston Sr. of FBI Minneapolis stated: "The allegations in this case represent a gross violation of both the law and the responsibilities entrusted to those who wear a badge." He emphasized that there is no room in law enforcement for those who exploit minors and reiterated the FBI's commitment to investigating such acts.
Gregg appeared before Magistrate Judge Dulce J. Foster in U.S. District Court today and was ordered to remain in custody pending further proceedings.
The investigation involved collaboration between the FBI, Rochester Police Department, and Homeland Security Investigations. Assistant U.S. Attorney Harry M. Jacobs is handling the prosecution.
It is important to note that a complaint is merely an allegation, and Gregg remains presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in court.
