An Illinois man has entered a guilty plea in U.S. District Court in Bangor for making threatening interstate communications.

Court records reveal that Massimo Frangella, aged 24, sent seven identical emails to public officials in Maine from his personal email account. The subject line of these emails stated: “You’re going to die.” Within the body of the emails, Frangella made further threats, writing: “I’m going to kill you and all of your child raping friends.”

Frangella is facing potential penalties including up to five years in prison, a fine that could reach $250,000, and up to three years of supervised release. Sentencing will occur following the completion of a presentence investigative report by the U.S. Probation Office. A federal district court judge will make the final sentencing decision after reviewing the U.S. Sentencing Guidelines along with other statutory considerations.

The FBI conducted the investigation into this case with support from Maine Capitol Police.
