A Canadian man has been sentenced in U.S. District Court in Bangor for unlawfully entering the United States and importing a controlled substance. Nathan Paul Curran-McQuade, 31, received a sentence of 12 months and a day of imprisonment along with three years of supervised release for importing methamphetamine. Additionally, he was given a concurrent sentence of 100 days for illegal entry into the U.S.
Curran-McQuade had pleaded guilty on January 21, 2025. The charges stemmed from an incident in September 2024 when U.S. Border Patrol agents stopped him near the town of Caswell after he crossed the border from Canada. He was operating an ATV on a trail marked with international boundary signs.
Upon being stopped, Curran-McQuade was found to be carrying approximately 13.9 grams of methamphetamine and marijuana stored in a mason jar within his backpack. He told agents that he was heading to a store in Caswell to purchase gas and claimed that the drugs were intended for personal use.
The investigation into the case was conducted by the U.S. Border Patrol.
