Robert Lee Moran, a 46-year-old resident of Mount Hope, West Virginia, has been sentenced to nine months in prison followed by three years of supervised release for distributing fentanyl. This sentencing was announced by Acting United States Attorney Lisa G. Johnston.
Court documents reveal that on January 29, 2024, Moran sold approximately 0.857 grams of fentanyl to a confidential informant in Beckley for $100. As part of his guilty plea, he admitted to the transaction and arranging it beforehand.
On April 30, 2024, law enforcement executed a search warrant at Moran's home where they seized two bags suspected to contain fentanyl along with multiple firearms and drug trafficking paraphernalia.
Moran's criminal history includes convictions for domestic battery, destruction of property, possession of a hoax bomb, and harboring a fugitive.
The investigative work leading to this conviction was conducted by the Beckley/Raleigh County Drug and Violent Crime Unit. This unit comprises officers from the West Virginia State Police, Raleigh County Sheriff’s Department, and Beckley Police Department.
Chief United States District Judge Frank W. Volk imposed the sentence. The case was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorneys Brian D. Parsons and Alexander A. Redmon.
