Felon admits guilt in illegal firearm possession

A convicted felon from Pell City, Alabama, has admitted to illegally possessing firearms. U.S. Attorney Prim F. Escalona announced that Kelvontae Rashad Wallace, 26, pleaded guilty before U.S. District Judge R. David Proctor to charges of being a felon in possession of a firearm and possession of a machinegun.

The plea agreement details incidents between December 2023 and January 2024 where Wallace possessed firearms illegally on two occasions. On December 15, 2023, Talladega police responded to a shooting at the Orange #1 gas station. The officers found a victim with multiple gunshot wounds and collected evidence including .45 caliber shell casings. Surveillance footage showed Wallace using a Glock pistol modified into a machinegun with a "Glock switch" to shoot the victim.

On January 2, 2024, the U.S. Marshals Service Gulf Coast Fugitive Task Force and Pell City Police Department attempted to arrest Wallace for charges related to the December incident in Talladega. During this operation, Wallace tried to escape but was apprehended by officers who recovered additional firearms from his apartment.

The investigation involved several law enforcement agencies including ATF, U.S. Marshals Service Gulf Coast Fugitive Task Force, Pell City Police Department, Talladega Police Department, and Anniston Police Department. Assistant U.S. Attorney Kristy M. Peoples prosecuted the case.
