Following a one-week trial, a federal jury in Memphis found Vincent Grant, also known as "V-Slash," guilty for his role in a gang-related murder. Grant, 41, is associated with the Unknown Vice Lords (UVL), a street gang involved in various criminal activities across Memphis and neighboring states.
The court heard that on January 10, 2019, UVL's Supreme Elite Chief and his girlfriend were killed in broad daylight. The gang retaliated against the Traveling Vice Lords (TVL) that same night, believing them responsible. Days later, UVL members identified an internal suspect and executed him on January 15, 2019. Grant provided firearms used in this act.
Matthew R. Galeotti of the Justice Department’s Criminal Division stated: “This violent gang brutally executed one of their own and left the body on display as a warning that betrayal would not be tolerated.”
Acting Director Daniel Driscoll of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives remarked: “Gang violence is never isolated — it endangers entire communities.”
Grant was convicted of causing death by use of a firearm during a crime of violence related to racketeering. His sentencing is scheduled for September 19; he faces up to life imprisonment.
The case was investigated by multiple agencies including the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives and prosecuted by Trial Attorneys Lisa Thelwell and Christopher Usher with assistance from local offices.
This conviction is part of efforts under the Criminal Division’s Violent Crime Initiative to address gang-related crimes in Memphis through federal law enforcement collaboration.
